Handing over your life savings to a website – What you can learn from Fintech Product Development
“Give me your life savings.” This is the essence of what Nutmeg.com, an online wealth manage, asks of thousands of potential customers every day. Beyond the obvious challenges of convincing people to trust a startup with huge sums of money, Wealth Management is a complex and heavily regulated industry that is dominated by massive companies with 300+ year track records. The only way to compete is by building a great product that engenders trust and makes people rethink how they approach investment.
This talk highlights how the burdens of fintech regulation can be repurposed as useful constraints for developing creative product solutions. It also looks at how behavioral economics research can be repurposed to design dramatically better product interfaces. I’ll highlight tips I learned at Google that apply in a startup and include some insights gained now which would have been useful in corporate environments.
