Monica Rucki is a Product Manager at Google and has always had a passion for social impact. As a young engineer she started her career with Engineers Without Borders in Ghana partnering with the United Nations Development Program on programs to tackle extreme poverty and economic development. She stayed in the region for 5 years consulting on a number of international development projects before completing her MBA at INSEAD. After her MBA, recognising the amplification effect of the internet, she decided to shift gears and join Rocket Internet to open new e-commerce businesses in emerging markets. First in South East Asia with Lazada and Zalora and then in Africa with Jumia, she saw the transformative power that e-commerce can have in bringing small informal businesses online. Now at Google, Monica is a Product Manager in the Shopping for Next Billion Users Team. Still passionate about economic development, in her role she is focused on offering new opportunities for small informal retail businesses to scale through the internet. Outside of work she is a TEDx speaker and also a mentor to UK based start-ups that are focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
