Products for your own people: How to build great products for an internal audience
As part of the recent responsive re-platform of Telegraph.co.uk, Jo lead a team to design & build a bespoke content creation tool that needed to stand up to the pace and scrutiny of a 500 strong newsroom.
To make sure it hit the mark, the product team adopted the user-centric methods normally used to create products for external audiences, and studied the newsroom in depth with time and motion studies, interviews and observations. They also sought the views of over 120 journalists throughout the process with a programme of testing, workshops, and surveys.
The result was an efficient and effective tool that massively reduced training time and increased publishing speed. Creating an article is now over six times faster than before and training time has gone from 3.5 weeks to one hour!
